Happy Monday!
I think we brought some milder weather to Texas from Maryland. The temperatures have dropped since we arrived and it rained the majority of the weekend. I think someone told us that it's been a month since they had rain.
Our pre construction meeting last Monday went well. We made some minor changes to the plans (added a couple of lights, changed a couple of electrical outlets). Our first design meeting also went well. We selected the stone for the house as well as stucco color and roof color. This coming Friday we have meetings to do the plumbing and appliances. They are expecting to start building in 4-5 weeks. When we built our house in Maryland it was not a complete custom home so this go around you have to select everything, which is a bit overwhelming but also fun.
The job search is pretty much the same. I have submitted lots and lots of resumes and applications and unfortunately have only heard from one recruiter. Everyone tells me I need to be patient that the right job will come along but it's hard since I've actually been out of work for over two months, although we have only been in Texas for two weeks.
We miss everyone in Maryland but have been keeping in touch with everyone via email so that makes it a bit easier.
We also met one of our neighbors. They just moved here from Georgia in April. The hubby is in the Air Force. So now we know about a dozen people in Texas :>)
This is kind of a boring update but this what is happening with us right now!!
Rental life
We have arrived in our new home - TEXAS!!
For the most part the closing on our house in Maryland went well and we were able to get on the road and get a few hours of driving in on Wednesday, August 29th. We lucked out with Hurricane Issac and only had about 1 hour of rain with only about 1/2 of that being a hard rain. Actually the worst part of the drive was Waco through Austin. There was a lot of construction and traffic. But we arrived on Saturday, September 1st and visited the rental to ensure that it had been cleaned. It was left in very good condition and we unloaded most of the stuff we brought with us and then checked in to the hotel.
Yes we stayed in a hotel until the movers arrived with our stuff. There was no way I was going to sleep on the floor after having back surgery only 8 weeks ago.
Despite the rental being left in good shape we still gave it a good cleaning from top to bottom. The movers arrived with our stuff as scheduled on Tuesday, September 4th and we were able to sleep in our own bed that night!!
Below are some before and after photos that you might enjoy.
This is the front area of the house. We think it's suppose to be a living room and dining room but obviously it's serving as our workout room.

This is the kitchen and what will serve as Rob's office.

This is the living room/family room.

The rental is a 4 bedroom but we are only using 2 bedroom for our room and a guest room and the other 2 are being used as storage. So here are some pictures of the boxes and extra furniture.
Our other piece of news is we are meeting with the builder tomorrow for our pre-construction meeting.
I'll post pictures of that progress along the way for those that are interested. Thanks for reading!!
