OMG, it's Monday already and it's July 30th!! Wow how time flies. It was a busy, busy weekend. No packing whatsoever was competed but no worries.
On Friday, we had dinner at Bonefish Grill with a friend / ex-coworker and his wife. This was a first for us as Bonefish, sad because it's only 5-10 minutes down the road but really good food. It was great to get together and catch up, I will miss friends / family and in MD so much.
Saturday, we drove to the Eastern shore to visit Rob's parents and enjoy some MD seafood - yummy, yummy crab bisque. Had to say goodbye for awhile, bot Rob will get to see them again in a couple of months.
Sunday, we had a cookout with some friends / Rob's co-worker and Rob's summer intern. We had a great time, enjoyed some great food and fun conversation. Again, no need to say goodbye yet, because I hope to see them before we leave.
Today has been busy reviewing paperwork for settlement on our MD house and reviewing the contract paperwork for our new house in TX. Rob and I both agree that we would not even be close to being ready for moving if we both were still working. While I miss going to a job everyday, I have been able to get so much done that would have made life crazier if we had to do it in the evening and weekends.
Rob also pointed out that 1 month from today we will no longer be living in our house and will no longer be in MD. So hard to believe. Rob has lived in MD all his life, so I can image how difficult this move is for him. I have lived in MD for 17 years and we have been in our wonderful home for 13 of those years. While we are sad to move away from family and friends we are happy about building our new house and being closer to different family and friends.
Happy Monday to all!!
Post Surgery - 2 weeks and GREAT news from Doc
Great news from the Doc today - I can drive and swim and return to "normal" duties next week!! Further clarification about "normal" duties brought to you by Rob, not me:
Rob - "you need to ease back into normal things. NO you are not running next week." Darn it!!
Of course he is right, I don't want to overdo anything and end up right back where I was.
As one of my BFF's always tells me - life happens. Yep, I'm good with that. I'm feeling pretty good and a firm believer that impossible doesn't exist unless you let it exist in your mind.
I think I'm more driven than I have been in a long time. So excited about this Chapter of my life - it's going to be a good one!! I have several goals on my bucket list that are moving back to the top!!

Still moving along
It's coming up on 2 weeks since my surgery and life is moving along. My walking has been up and down. I have good days and not so good days. It either depends on how numb my foot is or if my back is a bit sore from the day before.
This past weekend was a productive weekend, but I probably way overdid things. I'm sure the Dr would not be happy to hear some of the things I have been doing. But there is packing to do, Aug 29th (house close date) is fast approaching and there is still a lot to get done.
I have my follow-up Dr appt on Thursday so I'll find out if I can drive and start to swim - I hope cause that would be very good news.
The house situation is moving along - we had very minor issues to resolve from the home inspection so hopefully those will be done by the end of this week.
I have 1 more moving company to meet with but we have ranked the 4 that I have seen so far so we will see where the final one comes in. We will have our final decision who we are going with by the end of the week. Still need to figure out what we are going to do with my car, most of the movers will hire a 3rd party vendor to move your car, I was disappointed to hear that but understand. So I need to do some reserach on my own as it might be cheaper for us to do that rather than go through the moving companies.
We have an appointment scheduled to visit some rentals when we are in Texas so hopefully we will have some luck and find something.

Post Surgery - 1 week
One week from today I was preparing for surgery and was in some pretty severe pain. Today the severe pain is gone. For 1 week I think I'm doing pretty good. My back feels better than I expected at this point, I'm taking less and less pain medication (currently med free since about 330 a.m.) and I've been taking daily walks from 2-3 miles. The main issues I'm still experiencing is the numbness in my left leg and foot. My foot being the worst part and the reason I think my walking is so slow. Today's walk I loosened my running shoe as much as I could which actually helped take some of the pressure off of my foot and did result in a faster walk. Although still very slow it was faster than yesterday. I still have some pain when standing up and sitting down but it's minor compared to what I was experiencing.
I'm also a little over a week into being unemployed, which right now makes me feel good because I don't feel the nag to get back to work quickly and actually feel that I can take the time to recover and get back on my feet. Although the move is pressure enough, I'm thankful that we had already gotten so much done and have been very lucky with the house selling process. Now we just need to find a new place to live!
I have been spending most of my time prepping for our move. I have appointments over the next 2 weeks with movers to get estimates for moving us.
My follow-up Dr appointment is next Thursday and hopefully I'm going to get cleared to drive. Not that I have a lot of places to go these days, but you do feel confined when you can't drive.
Cheers to everyone that is reading!

Post Surgery - 5 days
Would love to report that I'm pain free, jumping around and back to my old self but that would be a little fib. I am feeling better than I expected to be feeling. I'm still experiencing pain in my back, where I had the surgery and I still have numbness in my left leg and foot but overall I'm feeling pretty good.
I scheduled my 2 week follow-up with Dr. Nathan for July 19th and I'm moving around better. Sleeping and sitting is getting much easier.
I've had folks stop by and visit, which has been nice and help breaks up the boredom of just sitting around the house because there is very little I can do and under the watch of hawkeye "Rob" he is not letting me do much.
I do have all the possible mover interview / estimates scheduled for this week or next so we should have a decision on that by the end of next week. Can't believe that we only have 7 more weeks till closing.
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this cooler Tuesday morning!!

Post Surgery - 2 days
On Thursday (July 5th) I had Lumbar Laminectomy / Discetomy on my L5. My surgery was scheduled to start around 3:10 pm but actually didn't start until 4ish. I was out of surgery and into my room for the evening around 7ish. However I still had not seen Rob. Around 9:30 I realized I had a phone in my room and called Rob's cell phone. He thought I was still in recovery. So a short visit and a kiss on the forehead he headed home and I spent the night at Frederick Memorial Hospital. I got up about every 2 hours to use the facilities, but was impressed with how well I was able to move around. My leg/foot was mostly pain free and my back was stiff but felt pretty good. I have to mention how great all the staff at FMH were, very nice, accommodating and friendly group of people.
Friday morning I was able to have real food (I hadn't eaten any food since about 9:30 p.m. on July 4th). So I enjoyed some fruit, a bit of hash browns and wonderful coffee.
Dr. Nathan came by to see me around 10 and asked how I was doing and gave me the OK to head home. Rob came to get me and we were home by noonish. Before leaving the hospital I got a quick visit from a friend that works at FMH that stopped by to say hi and see how I was doing. Very sweet of her and much appreciated.
My wonderful husband went and filled my prescription (more oxy) and bought me some candy and cupcakes. I also received some flowers from some dear friends and TS and lots and lots of text messages and FB updates from family and friends.
Two days later I'm surprised at how well I feel. My back is tender and getting up and down is a bit tough but overall I slept well last night and I'm feeling better than I thought.
Tomorrow will be the big test as the home inspector is coming and we need to be out of the house for 3-4 hours, so we will see how that goes since I won't have my comfy blanket and couch!
I'll continue to keep everyone posted. I'm also updating my other blog http://pitatriing.blogspot.com/, which was originally used for my Tri training but will now cover my fitness, getting back into shape for 2013 race season.
Also yesterday, we spoke to Keith, our house planner with Jimmy Jacobs Homes and approved our final house plans. Our next step is to finalize the price, so we can get the construction loan going. We plan to visit Texas in August to meet with the lending folks, Keith and our new Best Friend the Construction Project Manager and look for a rental place to stay.
We are so amazed at how fast things are moving.

New beginnings.....
As I mentioned in my last post, yesterday was my last day at my job of almost 15 years. It was a whirlwind day filled with much excitement, fear and sadness.
Excitement that our life is progressing in a new direction and our dream to move to Texas will be happening soon. After my surgery I'll start blogging to keep everyone up to date on that process.
Fear that I'm without a job and will not be looking for a new job until we actually move to Texas and fear about my upcoming back surgery.
Sadness that my daily routines for the past 15 years are changing and I won't get to see many of my friends on a daily basis. I know that I will be keeping in touch with many of them but not seeing some of them on a daily basis will be a big change in my life.
My back surgery is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 3 with check in at the hospital at 1. I have to stay overnight but should be getting out pretty early on Friday. Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes and prayers. Rob will be keeping everyone up to date on Facebook and as soon as I'm feeling up to it I'll do another posting.
Happy 4th of July to everyone. THANK YOU to everyone that has and continue to fight for our freedom. Your sacrifices are appreciated every day but we don't always tell you that!!

Tomorrow starts a new phase in my life
Yes, yes, I know it's been forever, but life catchs up and some times you just don't have time. Well life is about to dramatically change for me....tomorrow is my last day at my current job. I have been there for almost 15 years and have had some great opportunities and have met some wonderful people. I wasn't planning on leaving until next Friday (yes the 13th) but due to some back issues that need some immediate attention I was able to get in for surgery this Friday so tomorrow is going to be my last day.
There are many other things happening in my life and I want to share that with everyone as well. So I'm hoping to be more consistent in keeping up with my blog.
First off, getting through the last day of my job.
Second, getting through my back surgery scheduled for Thursday, July 5th. I'm sure Rob will get a good picture of two of me in recovery but I'll try to do my best to share my experiences along the way.
More to come!
